ImagePreston has got a good population comprising of south Asian people. Due to this reason a Mela or a fair is organized. This fair is organized by the Preston Mela Trust and Preston City Council and is a major event on the summer festival calendar. It aims to celebrate the heritage and culture of the city's South Asian community.

People from all over the North West region of the country visit this Mela and this is a popular place to visit. The Mela has something for all the family, from superb food and colorful dancing displays, to live music and workshops. The people can learn the crafts of south Asia like Henna painting and Rangoli. It represents the city's diverse and vibrant culture and recognizes the contribution the South Asian community makes to the city.


ImageThe funding of the Meal is done by many sponsors and their contributions make this event a major even in the city's arts and cultural calendar. The Mela is usually held on the second Sunday of June between between 12 noon and 9pm at Preston's Avenham and Miller Parks.

It is also known as the annual South Asian Mela and has been in existence for 13 years and brings together Preston’s Asian community for festivity. There is something for everyone with rides for children and plenty of action on the main stage.





ImageThe food offered is generally south Asian in taste with south Asian cuisine and there is traditional South Asian singing, music and cuisine. The entertainment has Punjabi touch to it and Punjabi MC provided music that had the entire Avenham Park dance to some proper Punjabi beats.

The Mela also has a range of stands that allowed people to get health, housing and financial information so you can get any information you want from this place. The food stalls selling South Asian delicacies and traditional crafts were taught like Henna painting, Rangoli and much more.
